Luke Chapter 41 And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness2 for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And he ate nothing during those days. And when they were ended, he was hungry.3 The devil said to him, āIf you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.ā4 And Jesus answered him, āIt is written, āMan shall not live by bread alone.ā ā5 And the devil took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time,6 and said to him, āTo you I will give all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will.7 If you, then, will worship me, it will all be yours.ā8 And Jesus answered him, āIt is written, ā āYou shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.ā ā9 And he took him to Jerusalem and set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him, āIf you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here,10 for it is written, ā āHe will command his angels concerning you, to guard you,ā11 and ā āOn their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.ā ā12 And Jesus answered him, āIt is said, āYou shall not put the Lord your God to the test.ā ā13 And when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from him until an opportune time. Matthew Chapter 41 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.2 And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.3 And the tempter came and said to him, āIf you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread.ā4 But he answered, āIt is written, ā āMan shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.ā ā5 Then the devil took him to the holy city and set him on the pinnacle of the temple6 and said to him, āIf you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, ā āHe will command his angels concerning you,ā and ā āOn their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.ā ā7 Jesus said to him, āAgain it is written, āYou shall not put the Lord your God to the test.ā ā8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.9 And he said to him, āAll these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.ā10 Then Jesus said to him, āBe gone, Satan! For it is written, ā āYou shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.ā ā11 Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him. |
