A Kingdom Divided

Ahijah the prophet stands with Jeroboam in the wilderness, holding the torn strips of a cloak as a prophetic sign over Israel. The divided garment represents the fracture of Solomon’s kingdom: ten tribes are given to Jeroboam, while one tribe remains with the house of David for the sake of the Lord’s covenant promise. Set among rocky hills and a flowing river, the meeting carries the gravity of judgment, succession, and national division. The scene reflects the biblical warning that idolatry and unfaithfulness bring consequences even upon a prosperous kingdom. At the same time, the preserved remnant points to God’s enduring faithfulness to David’s line.
