Behold the Man

Jesus stands wounded and crowned with thorns beneath Roman arches, clothed in a scarlet robe as hostile voices rise behind Him. At the opposite side, the governor presents Him to the gathered crowd, echoing the words, “Behold the Man”. The scene depicts the moment in the Passion narrative when Christ is mocked, scourged, and displayed before the people before His crucifixion. The crown of thorns and robe expose the cruelty of false kingship imposed on Him, yet they also reveal the deeper truth of His suffering reign.
