King Nebuchadnezzar lifts his face toward the light after his season of madness, his unkempt hair and beard recalling the humiliation described in Daniel. The once-proud ruler of Babylon is shown at the moment his understanding returns and his mouth turns from arrogance to praise. His upward gaze and softened expression center the story on divine sovereignty: the Most High humbles earthly kings and restores those who acknowledge His rule.

This artwork draws from Daniel 4, where Nebuchadnezzar is driven from human society until he learns that heaven rules. When he raises his eyes to heaven, his reason is restored, and he blesses the everlasting King.
