Description
King Uzziah stands inside the temple with incense smoke rising from the altar, recoiling as the priests confront him for taking a holy duty that belonged only to the sons of Aaron. The high priest, clothed with the priestly breastplate, gestures toward the altar while other priests witness the king’s trespass. The scene presents the moment from 2 Chronicles 26 when Uzziah’s pride led him to burn incense in the sanctuary, and leprosy broke out on his forehead before the priests drove him from the house of the Lord. The artwork emphasizes the holiness of worship, the danger of pride, and the biblical distinction between royal power and priestly service. It is well suited for teaching on obedience, reverence, temple worship, leadership accountability, and Old Testament narratives.
